Should Saviours Be Sued?

Days after an NRA Life Member was credited with using his lawfully owned firearm to save the life of the 24-year-old woman in Georgia, NRA State Liaison Scott Riehl testified in support of Maryland House Bill 781, which would prevent lawsuits by criminals or their estates for injuries sustained during the course of violent criminal activity against those who use lawfully owned firearms in lawful defense of self or others. Citing cases in Colorado and New York where violent criminals successfully sued their victims or reached out-of-court settlement with insurance companies, NRA's Riehl testified today that the bill “rightly places the assumption of risk of injury in the course of criminal conduct where it belongs -- on the criminal . . .(and) would shield the victim from unwarranted victimization.”
